Update on Time-Wasters

Stop Wasting my Time signSo, what rubbish emails and calls have there been to Brooklands Radio station in the last few days?

Still getting calls from the same stupid PPI chasers. Pathetic. Unfortunately they use a computer to dial and play their message so they can keep on dialling the entire population repeatedly.

A Chinese company HungFung International want us to sell their nit removal combs. But it’s all fake – the supposed email address etc. are all just links to websites they get paid for promoting.

A supposed message from someone on LinkedIn. It’s fake. They copied the format of a real LinkedIn message request just to get us to click on some website that no doubt contains a scam.

Funding Circle offering us a business loan. We’re a volunteer organisation. No loans thank you.

An email proclaiming that Kids Stay Free at the Moon Palace Hotel in Cancun. May be a copy of a real advert for the hotel but sent from a spammer to get us to click on websites they want us to visit.

These people just waste our time and clog up the Internet with rubbish.

So, what rubbish emails and calls have there been to Brooklands Radio station in the last few days?

A Chinese company want to sell us wax castings for making steel – apparently because they know that we buy these products from their competitors. Completely ridiculous

A website “Icelotto” offering to sell us Euro millions lottery tickets. But we can already buy them on the National Lottery website – so why would anyone pay money to an unknown third party? Crazy.

An American company wanting us to be a distributor for their slip resistant floor product. But their mailbox is a free one which means they don’t work for a business – it’s just a scammer.

Mrs Owen Morales has named us the sole beneficiary of the estate of Mr Owen Harry Morales and its valued at $21 Million. Yeah right. Completely Legit !

These people just waste our time and clog up the Internet with rubbish.

Are All Sales Emails Spam and Hence Bad?

No. There are very good reasons for businesses to send you sales emails and in many cases the recipient is pleased to receive the emails.

e.g. If you’ve signed up to Marks and Spencer and they notify you of a forthcoming sale or special discounts or Amazon email you about a one day sale coming up or your local car dealer emails you about their new model coming out.

However, the problem arises where companies and people send out bulk emails to people without thinking about whether you want such emails and certainly without your permission to send them to you.

Some people buy email lists knowing they are poor quality but don’t care – you can buy 20 million email addresses for as little as $200. These people just assume that the more they send out the more response they will get. But of course, the poorer the quality of the list and the more irrelevant their product is for those people then the lower the response rate will be.

But some well meaning businesses get caught up in this. They may buy an email list in good faith, but then not use it for 3 months (so it’s out of date) or repeatedly email the same people or target the wrong people or have bought the list from an unscrupulous supplier.

Whatever the reason, these emails clog up the Internet and clog up the Inbox on your email.

If you do send out sales emails – think about how relevant your message is to the recipients and always give them the option to be removed from your mailing list.

That’s Sales emails.

Time-Wasters This Week

Stop Wasting my Time signSo, what rubbish emails and calls have there been to Brooklands Radio station in the last few days?

A company wants to sell us advice on picking the right employee attendance system. We’re a volunteer organisation – we have no employees.

Another company trying to sell us an outsourced payroll system. Volunteer organisation – no employees.

A company called Bulker Mania wanting to do our Marketing emails for us and send them out. Only $999 to send 10 million emails. That’s $99 per million emails. Unbelievable.  Quite dreadful.

A market research company sending us reports about on demand video in Europe – WHY?

A Chinese intellectual property bureau who want to talk with us about property investments because we have a person with a similar surname to someone they worked with in the past at a different organisation. Can you believe they say they choose business partners on the grounds of similarity of surname?

These people just waste our time and clog up the Internet with rubbish.
